Class Description
Guitar 101 is a 5-session class for the beginner guitarist or anyone who would simply like to establish a strong musical foundation with the guitar. We will start by learning to read tablature (guitar music) and chord charts. Throughout the sessions you will develop a “bank” of chords that will allow you to play almost any song you could want. We will also cover beginning strumming and picking with several different styles of music pieces.
“I think the most beautiful thing about music is that it creates wonderful relationships between those who share it. My teaching philosophy is simply giving the student necessary technique to perform and share the music about which they are most passionate.”
Instructor: Jake Farr
Jake Farr studies under David Brandon at Texas Tech University and anticipates his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education in the Spring of 2012. Jake has performed in master classes with the royal family of guitar, Los Romeros, The Athens Trio, and has taken private lessons with Pepe Romero. He originated the guitar classes at Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, has given private lessons since 2006, and currently works at Brandon Guitar Studio. Jake is passionate about writing, performing, and teaching music. He inspires students to develop this same love with his optimistic and personalized teaching style.
