Artist Statement (Tony Greer)
Tony Greer has called Lubbock his home since birth, has owned and operated Special Effects Neon for the past 31 years and is self-taught in the art and science of glassworking, neon lighting and plasma sculpture. He produces conventional neon tubing for signage and architectural illumination as well as luminous glass sculpture incorporating inert gases, glowing phosphors and high voltage enclosed in blown glass tubing or furnace glass. "The things that intrigue me the most are electricity, light and glass. Each one is fascinating on its own, but when these elements are combined they have the potential to become something uniquely beautiful. For me, this is the perfect marriage of science and art, as I find many of the phenomena in physics, as well as nature, intrinsically beautiful." Tony's studio is presently located at 1822-24 Buddy Holly Avenue, along with Sandstorm Glassworks and Tornado Gallery.
