"Shadow and Silhouette"
July 4 – Aug 30, 2014
Helen DeVitt Jones Studio Gallery
Sights almost not seen and moments marginally noticed were the catalyst of this black bird series. A glimpse of the bird’s motion within the flicker of time is part of what I hope these photographs portray. They symbolize to me the chaos and noise that surrounds our everyday lives. With so many distractions and noise around us, it is sometimes difficult to keep our focus. Then again, I find mystery and beauty in the blurs and shadows that are the physical subject of this series.
In this series I use blur and motion to soften detail. I am interested in impressions not precise copies of the realities. The toning of the prints and the black corners are used to give a vintage feel to the image.
